One Antenna or Two for HF/VHF/UHF | pmc181 | on 24/9/14 |
Hi all, I am a newbie studying for my technicians exam and trying to pick out my first equipment for a home base station. At least at first, I want to cover the HF/VHF/UHF bands of 10,6,2, and 70cm. My choice for the radio is either the Yaesu FT-897D or the FT-991 if available. I want to roof mount one or two antenna, 20 to 25 ft at the base, on my house to cover these bands. My backyard is pretty much an in ground concrete pool area so not really any place for ground antenna with radials. My question is would I be better off with one Comet or Maldol HVU-8 antenna or would I have a better setup going with one vertical for the vhf/uhf and another one just for HF? Thanks for all comments and suggestions. Paul |

Emailing Ham Operators | pmc181 | on 12/9/14 |
Hello All, I am studying for my technicians license and also looking at base station equipment especially antennas. I did a search and found 52 ham operators in my zip code and 17 of them are in my subdivision. Wow! I want to contact the operators in my subdivision to find out what does and does not work as far as an antenna for a base station. I have checked a couple of the names on the list and can't find any postings they have done on the ARRL forums. So my newbie question is: Is there a way to send email to an operator's call sign so the next time they are on the air they would get it? I have the operators home address, but I just don't want to walk up to their door. I would rather contact them online to explain the advice I am looking for. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, pmc181 |
