Government Shutdown Averted, FCC Shutdown Plan Shelved, for Now

09/30/2015

The US House has gone along with the US Senate in passing a continuing resolution to fund the US Government until December 11. This means the FCC will continue in operation for another 10 weeks or so. In the hours before the House acted, however, the FCC released a “Plan for Orderly Shutdown Due to Lapse of Congressional Appropriations.”

In 2013 a more truculent Congress failed to approve a budget resolution before the fiscal year ended, and the government partially shut down for a couple of weeks, halting all FCC activities and services other than those considered essential to protect life and property.

Services suspended included the processing of all Amateur Radio license applications filed via the Universal Licensing System (ULS).
