What’s Going On with the ARRL? “Now Hear This”
Want to hear what’s going on at ARRL HQ? Every 10 days or so the Media and PR Department posts short audio clips in a series called “Now Hear This.” The audio blog has had a variety of personalities talking informally about what they see as the current events of the time.
The newest voice is ARRL CEO David Sumner, K1ZZ. Before that it was Bob Allison, WB1GCM, from the ARRL Lab and ARRL President Kay Craigie, N3KN. From public relations leaders to the VEC manager, you never know who might show up.
“Now Hear This” is a quick and informal way for ARRL HQ staff, ARRL management and volunteers to share information with members and public information officers (PIOs). The series was created by Media & PR Manager Allen Pitts, W1AGP, once he became fully conversant with the audio capabilities of the new ARRL website.
Topics have included not only public relations issues but licensing trends, emergency communications and contesting. “There are no rules, other than to keep it under 5 minutes,” says Pitts. “It’s whatever sounds interesting to me and to others that week. Each segment is kept posted for about 5 weeks. After a month or so it’s time to give someone else their 5 minutes of fame.”
