100 watt radio

With a 100 watt radio in ssb mode talking in a normal voice the power meter reads about 25 watts but if i give the mic a sharp whistle the meter will hit 100 watts. How much power is actually being transmitted in normal voice ? |

A typical analog meter will interpret 100 watts PEP of voice as 25 or 30 watts. A highly damped Bird 43 is even less accurate--you may see only 7 to 10 watts when transmitting100 watts PEP of normal voice. Zack Lau W1VT ARRL Senior Lab Engineer |
